North Penn's Dunigan to Compete in Swimming at West Chester

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022, North Penn senior Dan Dunigan was recognized for committing to continue his swimming career at West Chester University.

Dan Dunigan – West Chester University (Swimming)

Major:  Undecided

Final list of colleges: West Chester, Bloomsburg, U.S. Naval Academy

Reasons for choosing West Chester: “I love the campus, and I love the team. It’s pretty close to home, and it’s a great education.”

What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level?  “I thought I was going to play water polo, but I started to love swimming about junior year, and from there, I never looked back.”

Coach Jeff Faikish says: “Being a coach to a student-athlete such as Daniel Dunigan is actually easy. Anything you ask, anything you’d ever want in an athlete, Daniel represents. I have been fortunate to coach Daniel his first time ever in the pool all the way to today. He is a two-sport athlete – the starting goalie for our water polo team, the best water polo goalie in the State of Pennsylvania as well as one of the top swimmers to ever come out of North Penn High School, specifically, the distance events. Anybody who knows anything about the history of North Penn swimming and the Bartle family – he’s barking on the heels of that entire family, and I see him surpassing all of them this year.
“More important than his athletic accomplishments – what he does as a community leader and a team leader surpasses his athletic endeavors. The triathlon is one of the largest things that this school offers to elementary student-athletes. Daniel was one of the volunteers this past year, and more compliments came out of his lane specifically for the encouragement he provided to our students in the district. It’s just a testament to his character as a student-athlete. He’s going to be missed on our team and has big shoes for the underclassmen to fill as we move on.”
