North Penn's Dylan Brown to Play Baseball at Old Dominion

On Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, North Penn senior Dylan Brown was recognized for signing a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Old Dominion University.

Dylan Brown – Old Dominion University (Baseball)

Major:  Engineering Undecided

Final list of colleges:  ODU, Tennessee, West Virginia, Penn State, Notre Dame

Reasons for choosing ODU: “I was previously committed to Notre Dame, but that didn’t really work out, so I’m going to Old Dominion, and I’m really excited about that. In terms of Old Dominion, I really liked how the coaches were welcoming and really cared about who I really was, and they wanted me to succeed. I also liked the feel of the campus. It was just really welcoming.”

Coach Kevin Manero says: Outside of numbers and statistics, Dylan Brown is 100 percent the best kind of kid you'd ever want to be around. In the classroom, as a teammate, and in the way he goes about things on and off the field, he's the real deal. He’s an extremely hard worker, he’s extremely good in the classroom, and he’s always a team first kind of guy, so all those qualities are going to last him way longer than any of his baseball abilities, but his baseball ability is pretty incredible also. He threw 50 innings for us, went 5-1, 66 strikeouts and 12 walks, and his first-pitch strike percentage of 68 percent is a tremendous number. He also defeated Spring-Ford, who was the number one seed, in what I consider to be one of the most important games of the year, which is the district playoff game that qualifies you for states. It’s one of the toughest and one of the biggest. Also, when we got in states, he threw a shutout against Neshaminy in the state quarterfinals to send us into the semifinals, so it’s two of the biggest games you could face against two of the most difficult opponents we had all year, and there’s very little doubt that we would want to have a guy like Dylan Brown on the mound in games like that.

“In the classroom, he has a 3.97 unweighted GPA, he scored 1300 on his SATs. He is really the total package. One of the things I wanted to say about Dylan beyond all that is – in the time I’ve seen him at North Penn, the time period he made his greatest gain was from March 12 of 2020 until about June of 2020. Anybody that has any sense of what that was like that time of year – there were no team functions, there were no team practices, sports were totally shut down, and Dylan Brown came out of that bigger, stronger and more athletic than he was before that, and that just means he works hard when no one is looking, and that’s what it takes to be a successful Division 1 athlete. Dylan is going to do very well at Old Dominion. They’re a great program, they had two guys drafted last year, they won over 40 games last year, so they’re a very big, successful D-1 program, and Dylan is going to fit in there very well. Congratulations, Dylan. I hope every coach has an opportunity to coach players that are just as outstanding as you in all those ways.”
