Jared Melone – La Salle University (Baseball)

Major:  Accounting

Final list of colleges:  La Salle, Bloomsburg, Millersville, University of New Orleans

Reasons for choosing La Salle:  “I chose La Salle University because I love the small campus, and I love being close to my family. They also have a really good business program, and I really like the coach there.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  The summer before my sophomore year I started playing AAU baseball, and I’ve had a lot of coaches who’ve gotten me a lot of exposure to college coaches. (The recruiting process) started my junior year - I was getting contacted by some college coaches, and I had to narrow it down.”

Coach Kevin Manero says:  “Jared had a great opportunity here at North Penn that not everybody gets – he had a lot of playing time as a sophomore, and he had a very long playoff run as a sophomore also. It’s tough at a school like North Penn to break in that early in your career and really have the opportunity to play a lot, but he did.
“I know it’s grueling process trying to pick which college you’re going to go to and looking at different opportunities. I know that he and his family feel very relieved to be able to go on and look forward to that next chapter. I know he’s well prepared, and I know that the academic foundation is going to make him very successful there as well, which at the end of the day is the most important thing.”
