On Thursday, May 26, 2022, North Penn senior Hunter Stites was recognized for committing to continue his soccer career at East Stroudsburg University.
Hunter Stites – East Stroudsburg University (Soccer)
Major: Finance
Final list of colleges: East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg, Chestnut Hill College
Reasons for choosing East Stroudsburg: “I chose East Stroudsburg because of the coaches and the team. It’s just a great atmosphere there, and the location is really nice.”
Coach Chris DePeppe says: “Hunter has been a huge part of our program for the last four years. In my unofficial research, I think we have one of the winningest programs in District One in boys’ soccer in the last four years, and he’s been a huge part of that. His versatility as a player – he came in as a defender. He’s a defender on his state championship club team, but to his credit, he saw I needed him in another role, and he stepped up. He has a knack for scoring big goals in big games. By my count, he’s played eight different positions over the last three years. If we had left him at center back, he would have probably won more individual awards, but he did what was right for the team. He’s also part of a class that has won conference titles every year. He was one of three players who was on the state championship in 2019, and more than anything, I think he’s matured as much as any student-athlete I’ve seen as a person and player. He’s just really come into his own as a leader as well. He was a captain as a senior. I’m very proud to see him move on and play college soccer. He’s got a great future. He’s left his mark on North Penn soccer, and I’m sure he’ll do the same at East Stroudsburg.”
