Marisssa Elizardo – Bryant University (Field Hockey)
Major: Marketing
Final list of colleges: Bryant, Drexel, Lafayette, New Hampshire
Reasons for choosing Bryant: “I chose Bryant because when I stepped on campus it felt like home. As soon as I met the rest of the team, they were all really inviting and welcoming, and it just felt like I fit in.”
What was the progression that led you to playing field hockey at the collegiate level? “At the end of my sophomore year, I started to think about it, but it seemed like a dream, something that was really far off. My junior year I started going to showcases, talking to coaches and just going to camps, and from there, things took off.”
Coach Shannon McCracken says: “Marissa was our goalkeeper, and what’s special about Marissa is she really transformed herself into a really great athlete and blossomed into a leader this year. She was a captain for us, and she really led the defense because we were really young this year defensively.
“Bryant will be a great fit for her. She tossed around a lot of schools, and it came down to Bryant and Drexel. We sat in my office during preseason, and we worked through everything. Academically, I think it’s a great fit for her for marketing, but also, she’s going to be able to break right in and play her freshman year, which is really exciting for her. She’s just a great kid.”
