Mikaela Giuliani – University of the Sciences (Basketball)
Major: Pre-Physician’s Assistant
Final list of colleges: University of the Sciences, Penn State
Reasons for choosing University of the Sciences: “I was between Penn State and the University of the Sciences, and at Penn State, I wouldn’t have been able to play basketball, so that had a big impact on my decision. The education I can get at USciences is just a great education.”
What was the progression that led you to playing basketball at the collegiate level? “It was something I always wanted to do, but then there was a short span of time I was uncertain whether or not I wanted to. I think when my high school season ended, I realized I didn’t want that to be the end of my basketball career.”
Coach Maggie deMarteleire says: “Mikaela has been a starter since her freshman year. She has had a tremendous impact on our program and where we are. Statistically, the last two years she’s been our leading rebounder and our leading scorer. She’s been one of my most consistent players. She has 100 wins in her career, which I’m sure is the first time ever, and she’s a very bright student. I know she’s going to do very well at the University of the Sciences.”
Montgomery Fusion coach Brian Duross says: “This is all on Mikaela. Maggie (deMarteleire) knows what she’s doing, and I feel I know what I’m doing. She’s playing for people that have experience coaching-wise. Mikaela has put in an inordinate amount of time at the playground working on big man moves and trying to get her footwork right. That’s what I try and tell the kids – you have to put the work in, and the only reason she’s in the position she’s in is because she put the work in. She’s a great kid.”
