On Thursday, Nov. 17, 2012, Pennridge senior Stevi Parker was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to play soccer at the collegiate level.
Stevi Parker – University of South Carolina (Soccer)
Major: Undecided but possibly Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: South Carolina, West Virginia, Rutgers, Maryland, Florida
Reasons for choosing South Carolina: “I visited West Virginia, Rutgers and Maryland, and I was going to visit Florida, but that was after my visit to South Carolina. After I visited South Carolina, I was like, ‘I don’t need to visit anywhere else’ because I knew I wanted to go there. It was just a combination of everything. I loved the coaches and the team, the family environment, and obviously, I like the South because it’s nice down there. The facilities were awesome. Everything about it made me fall in love with the school.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate soccer? “I think ever since I started playing I fell in love with soccer and knew I wanted to continue to do that for pretty much the rest of my life. Once I started playing travel soccer I continued to grow as a player, and I knew it was reachable for me to play D-1 if I kept working hard.
“I moved to my club team, the PA Strikers, and I was exposed to a lot of college showcases so a lot of schools could see me play. It came down to which I was going to go to.”
What was the highlight of your high school career? “This year has just been incredible for me and I’m sure for the rest of my team. It was the perfect way to end my senior year.”
Coach Audrey Anderson says: “I can’t think of anybody that deserves greatness more than Stevi. When you’re a female and you look at these young girls coming through the program - and I coached local clubs as well, there’s not another girl that I would want my younger kids to idolize more than her. When she was a freshman, she would have training before school, then she’d come to school and have soccer and have more soccer after that. That was her – there’s nothing that kid wants to do more than soccer. She is without a doubt a special breed of soccer player. You’re lucky as a coach to have one player like that in your coaching career.”
