Meghan Johnson – Eastern University (Softball)

Major:  Athletic Training

Final list of colleges: Eastern, Ursinus, Pitt, Alabama

Reasons for choosing Eastern:  “I was always kind of a big school person, but Eastern gave me the opportunity to keep playing softball, which I was really interested in. It was one of the small schools I actually liked the campus, and it didn’t feel too small. It felt big when I was there, and it just gave me the opportunity to keep doing what I love.”

What was the progression that led you to playing softball at the collegiate level? “In December, I narrowed it down to the University of Alabama and Eastern. (Alabama) was my dream school – I always wanted to play there, and I realized that wasn’t realistic. I applied (to Alabama) and I got it, and that was kind of a big thing for me. When they first gave me the spot (at Eastern), I wasn’t really sure, and I said, ‘I’m going to need a month or two to get back to you.’ Coach Claire (Emplit) was very patient with me.
“I started thinking about it and I wasn’t sure if I could picture myself giving softball up so soon. That’s how I came to the conclusion that I was going to play.”

Coach Carol Atkinson says:  “Meghan is very dedicated, and she’s a team leader. As a new coach to the team, she really stepped up. She’s definitely a team leader. No matter how down the team gets, she inspires them to keep going. I wish her the best success.”
