What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “When I moved to an intense softball organization (Chaos), I realized I wanted to compete at a high level and continue in college.

“Sophomore year was a crucial recruiting year for us, so not being able to play, coaches were not able to come out to watch our games. Also, the East Coast is already at a disadvantage because we can’t practice year round, so we lost not only our season but our only season for the year, so that was really crucial to the recruiting process.

“But I don’t know that I would have found the school I did it weren’t for COVID. Twitter became a really big place where you posted videos and coaches watched them because they couldn’t come out and watch you and go to camps. I found UMBC through Twitter. The coach started liking my stuff on Twitter, and that’s how I found the school. I started looking into it, and I went on a visit when I could. I don’t think I would have ended up in the spot I’m at if it wouldn’t be for that.”

Coach Wendy Iadonisi says:  “I’ve known Catelyn for a long time, probably since she was nine years old, so I’ve seen her develop into such a mature young lady. She brings a lot of fun to practice, and she does what I ask her to do on the field. Her speed is definitely one of her assets, but last year her bat was just on fire, and she was our most consistent hitter. She played multiple positions for me. I put her in the infield in a position she was not very comfortable, but she never complained about it, and I was able to finally move her back to the outfield, and you could see she was definitely more comfortable out there. Throughout the whole season, her bat was probably her strongest asset and also just her speed on the bases and her knowledge of the game.”
