Carley Wingate – Bloomsburg University (Field Hockey)
Major: Business Management & Marketing
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, St. Joseph’s, Temple, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg: “When I got to the campus, I just felt like I was at home, and the coaching staff was so nice to me. I can tell they’re going to make me a better athlete.”
What was the progression that led you to playing field hockey at the collegiate level? “When I started playing club my freshman year, I really wanted to play college hockey, but then last year some things didn’t work out with recruiting. This year I had such a good season, and it made me want to play in college. Bloomsburg kind of found me - it just started the end of October, the beginning of November.
“It’s awesome. I just can’t wait for next year, especially because I’ll get to play in a few games my freshman year.”
Coach Becky Spahr says: “I’m really proud of Carley. I think Bloomsburg is a perfect fit for her – not only hockey-wise but also academically. This is my third year of working with her, and just seeing her grow, not only skill-wise but the work ethic. That’s what changed this year – how hard she worked at practice, and that translated into her games.”
