Bella Arcuri – Kutztown University (Basketball)

Major:  Sports Management

Reasons for choosing Kutztown:  “Kutztown was always my top choice. When I went on my visit, I immediately felt at home, and the coaches and girls on the team were all so nice and welcoming. It was also important that I was close to home so my family could come watch me play.”

What was the progression that led you to playing basketball at the collegiate level?  “I’ve been playing sports since before I can remember, and I’ve always wanted to play a sport in college, whether it was soccer or basketball. As I got older, I started focusing more on basketball, which led me to getting recruited. I’ve had some outstanding coaches throughout the years and an amazing support system from my family and friends that pushed me to be the best that I can be.”

Coach Frank Sciolla says:  I've watched Bella going all the way back to the soccer days of second and third grade, and then she and Ava (Sciolla) started playing basketball and soccer together in CYO. I knew that when we took over the program, it would be really important that Bella come to Pennsbury because she brought a level of intensity and competitiveness that we needed.  I told (assistant coach) Jen Sroba that she was pretty much a doppelganger of the way that Jen played. Fierce, athletic and ultimately, extremely self sacrificing.

“In certain respects I don't think we make the climb as fast as we did without the steady hand that Bella has given us. She is not losing 50/50 balls; she pulls tough rebounds in traffic; she takes bone shattering charges that still make me cringe even though I've known her for so long that I should know better!  And ultimately, she knows where the ball needs to be and delivers it.

“A big step for her last year was transforming from the old Bella da Bull into a more skilled version that gave us scoring in really big spots. Obviously, I've coached some great backcourts over the past 25 years, and I'm not inclined to rank them, but I dare say this current one need not take a back seat to any of them. Bella was at the forefront of that, and we love coaching her and more importantly, watching her mature as leader and a young woman.”
