Emelie Curtis – Duquesne University (Lacrosse)
Major: Business/Marketing Management
Final list of colleges: Duquesne, Temple, St. Joseph’s, Delaware
Reasons for choosing Duquesne: “I originally wanted to stay close to home, but as I visited some schools, my original thoughts of wanting to stay close and just what the other schools were definitely changed. It was getting down to the wire because the schools that I visited I didn’t really like that much, so further into the recruiting season, Duquesne reached out to me. I had not written to them or even heard of them. I went out and visited, and I absolutely loved the coach, the players, the whole campus, the city vibe. It was just perfect.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “When I decided that I wanted to play club, it was definitely a big factor into knowing and self evaluating whether I thought I was good enough to play in college, whether I wanted to, whether I wanted that commitment. It was around my freshman year or sophomore year that I decided I really wanted to commit and attempt to get recruited.”
Coach Shannon McPherson says: “Emilie has been a four-year varsity starter for our program, a two-year captain. She’s taken on the leadership role for the past two seasons, and she’s been a big asset to us on the field. Our coaching staff and the girls are extremely proud of Emelie for committing. She’s the type of player that works hard every single day and gives her all, and we’re more than happy for her.”
