Brooke Garretson – Colgate University (Swimming)
Major: Education/Mathematics
Final list of colleges: Colgate, Lafayette, Tufts
Reasons for choosing Colgate: “I chose Colgate because of the competitive academics and athletics, the beautiful campus and the wonderful coaching staff. They were really welcoming.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level? “Toward freshman or sophomore year, I realized how important swimming was and how much I enjoyed doing it, so I wanted to continue at the collegiate level.”
Coach Nick Luca says: “Brooke Garretson is the quintessential swimmer. She commands a presence when she’s on the pool deck. She led us to a successful season last year in my first year as head coach, and she was once again a leader on our team this year. She’s pretty much a silent sniper, if you will. She really contributes to the environment to help others grow, she shows others how it’s done without telling them, and she is a pleasure to have in the pool – she’s really fun to get the morale going so we have a good meet when we’re competing against other teams.”
