On Thursday, May 22, 2025, Pennsbury senior Maddy Sottung was recognized for committing to continue her cheerleading career at Stetson University.

Reasons for choosing Stetson: “I liked the smaller school feel. There are only 5,000 kids that go there. When I toured
there, it just really felt like home. It was very welcoming, and that just appeared to me.”
What was the progression that led you to continuing your cheerleading career at the collegiate level? “I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to cheerlead in college until my senior year. My mom pushed me to start looking into schools that it was a possibility for me to cheer on their cheer team.”
Coach Nicole Lawrence: “Coaching Maddy was a ton of fun. She was one of my captains this year, and she was definitely my cool, calm, collected, steadfast person. She’s super responsibility, super levelheaded, so she’s the person you can always go to for reasonable responses. She is a team-over-me kind of person and always wanted to do whatever was best for everyone else, which is one of my favorite things about her. Maddy had a pretty severe injury a couple of years ago, and her comeback from that is just incredible to me, so the fact that she’s in a position where she’s cheering in college is insanely memorable and makes me even more proud of her than I already am. She’s a joy to coach, she’s just a great kid, and I’m honored to have worked with her.”
