Reasons for choosing Howard: “I just felt really welcome at Howard. The whole team gave off a really welcoming chemistry, and I just felt closer and more at home.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level? “At the end of my freshman year, I started to develop a real love for the sport and realized I could actually go pretty far in it. I also played soccer as well, but I had a strong passion for track, so at that point, I chose track, and that’s what made me choose Howard.”
Coach Tim Cass says: “She’s an all-around athlete – (excels) in academics and everything. She holds numerous school records. She comes from a great family, and she’s going to continue to be successful in whatever she does.”
Assistant coach Micah Wright says: “Uche is probably one of the best athletes I have ever worked with, male and female. She has a gift that she’s able to do anything we ask her to do, so a lot of times early on she sacrificed personal success for team success because we needed her to do so many other things. It was fitting and fair when she won her first individual state championship that it was just the beginning for her. This spring season was the culminating season for her that sealed off her four years. Aside from personally what she’s done for herself, she has done a lot for the school. She was one of those students that coming through the middle school – we were waiting for her to get here, and she didn’t disappoint. She lived up to all the expectations and exceeded them, so I know it’s gratifying for her and her family, but I’m also confident she will be very successful at the next level. She was one of the most coachable athletes that we’ve worked with.”
