Dasia Pressley – Syracuse University (Track & Field)
Major: Kinesiology with a minor in business
Final list of colleges: Syracuse, Virginia, Rutgers, Penn State
Reasons for choosing Syracuse: “I wanted to stay within a four-hour radius, and I narrowed it down to those four schools. At first, I was hesitant because a lot of down south schools wanted me, but I don’t want to be too far from home. I didn’t want to be anywhere where I had to take a plane ride home, and I stuck with that. I’m a very homey person, and people say, ‘Oh, you have to venture out,’ but for me, four hours is venturing out far enough.
“I visited all the schools. People say you get that at home feeling when you get there. When I visited Syracuse, I had a really good home feeling. I could see myself there. The people are very nice, the facilities are nice. I just got a really good vibe there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level? “Surprisingly, I started track, not because it was always a passion but because my parents told me ‘you need to get into sports.’ I wasn’t into sports. They found out I was really good. I started doing it in high school, and as a freshman, I got sixth place indoor in the state, and in outdoor, I got second place. I was like, ‘Maybe I am better at this than I thought.’ Last year, I broke the state record, so I was like, ‘Maybe this could work out.’”
Coach Tim Cass says: “Dasia came to us from Neshaminy her junior year and had to do the waiting game to find out if she was eligible. She was dynamite over there, and she was even better over here. The thing about Dasia is she’s always smiling, and she works hard in both the classroom and on the track. She will do unbelievable at Syracuse. I think that’s a really nice choice for her. Coach Wright also deserves a lot of credit for her. He also made sure that the transition from Neshaminy was phenomenal.”
