Kammy Kropinski – Bloomsburg University (Softball)
Major: Criminal Justice
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, Kutztown, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg: “Bloomsburg was like a family when I went there, and it just felt like a good fit. The campus was beautiful.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “Ever since I was eight years old, it was my dream to play in college. My dad did a lot of the work – he was dedicated since my sophomore year to help me out as much as he could. We e-mailed coaches, sent videos, and they would come to my tournaments and watch me.”
Coach Dana Moyer says: “She’s a great kid from a great family. Even when she was a freshman, she wanted to look for any area she could improve her game, and she was meticulous about doing the work to fix whatever issues she might have – whether it was flips, forehands, backhands. Just small tiny things - whatever she could do to improve her game, she was diligently working on them.
“She’s got great softball IQ, so on the field - she understands game situations. I never have to worry about Kammy’s head not being where it needs to be. She’s got Plan A, and she understands that Plan B is the backup and maybe even a Plan C as well. She always knows where she needs to be, and she knows where other people need to be as well.
“Kammy was our leadoff, and she has such an amazing eye. She had close to a .500 on-base percentage. Either through hitting – and she hits for power, and she has a phenomenal eye. Getting on base for her – it was almost like we knew it was going to happen. If there’s something hitting-wise that she’s not doing or she wants to improve on, she’ll work on it constantly.
“She’s an amazing kid. She leads by example – she’s not the most vocal kid out there. She is definitely leading by example in every way, shape or form. From the moment I met her, I knew this was her goal. I knew she wanted to play in college. She played travel, she puts the time in, and she made the right decision for her. She’s a hard worker in the classroom, she comes from a hardworking background.”
