On Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, Quakertown senior Makenzie Adamson was recognized for committing to continue her field hockey career at Widener University. Check back for photos of the event.
Makenzie Adamson – Widener University (Field Hockey)
Major: Biology
Final list of colleges: Widener, Dickinson, Mansfield, Ursinus
Reasons for choosing Widener: “I just really loved the campus. I really don’t know how to explain it – as soon as I set foot on it, I had that feeling. The coaches were so nice and accepting and so were the girls, so I just loved it there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about it freshman year, and I really started getting myself out there in showcases my sophomore year. Widener came around junior year.”
Coach Kelly Driscoll says: “I’ve had the pleasure to coach Makenzie since she started playing at the high school level. I also had the opportunity to work with her while she was playing for Souderton Strikers, so I got to see her develop on many levels. She has done amazing things on and off the turf. She is a natural leader, she is a great hustler, and she’s always been that player that everybody wants to be able to coach because, no matter what, she wants to play. Even as a freshman when she was on the jayvee team – I was coaching the jayvee team at the time. It didn’t matter – she wanted to play wherever. She’d play on the varsity squad, and then the jayvee team was playing – ‘Coach, can I play? I just want to get in the game.’ She did an amazing job as a field hockey player and as a student-athlete. As a leader, she has been able to lead her team for the past three years. I’m hopeful and confident that going to Widener she will be able to excel and increase her skills as well as be the best student athlete she can possible be.”
