On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Quakertown senior Max Arkans was recognized for committing to continue his tennis career at Shenandoah University.

Reasons for choosing Shenandoah: “Shenandoah has a really good sports management program with a competitive tennis team.”
What was the progression that led you to playing tennis at the collegiate level? “I had always thought about playing in college but didn’t know what level at all. I signed with NSR who helped with the whole recruiting process and eventually led me to my decision for both academics and athletics.”
Coach Jen Wolfe says: “Max Arkans is probably one of the most consistent players that I’ve seen when it comes to playing tennis at a high level. The expectations that he sets for himself are incredible. I have not seen someone so dedicated in quite a long time. This kid eats, breathes and sleeps tennis. When we’re not in season, he’s competing at tournaments frequently. Anybody who is familiar with tennis – it’s important to constantly be playing, constantly be finetuning your serve, your forehand and your backhand. It’s a lot of technical skills. For him to be practicing year round, it shows how dedicated he is. Not only that, but honestly, with the exception of my uncle, who’s been a college coach for many years, I’ve never seen a kid be so analytical and so observant when it comes to coaching. Max has been an indispensable component for both the girls’ and boys’ seasons.
“As a freshman, Max placed fourth at leagues and just missed out on districts. As a sophomore, he placed second in our league, and he won his first match in districts only to lose to the number one seed in the second round. Last year, as a junior, he had an epic run. He placed first in our league, and he got a really nice draw for districts. Max was able to get all the way to sixth place. Unfortunately, they only take the top five for states, but still it was an amazing run. Besides playing singles, Max also played doubles and finished second in the league and advanced to districts. As a senior, Max again placed first in our league and made it to districts. He and his brother Ben placed second in doubles at leagues. Our brother duo beat Radnor in the first round of districts, which was a very nice showing. Max is one of the most decorated tennis players in our school’s history. It has been an honor and privilege to work with him, to coach with him. I wish you all the luck in your future tennis career and academic career at Shenandoah University. I know you’re going to do great things.”
