Lindsay Beck – Lycoming College (Volleyball)
Major: Criminology
Final list of colleges: Lycoming, Cabrini, DeSales
Reasons for selecting college: Lycoming was very personal to each student and has a great home environment. The professors seem amazing, and the volleyball team has amazing people that make you feel accepted.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in volleyball at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing volleyball since I was nine and seeing both my sisters play in college really got me to see how much fun it is and how it builds great friendships. Also, I love the sport and could never see myself not playing. I started looking at colleges my junior year and emailing coaches (at schools) that I was interested in and got them to come see me play.”
Coach Wendy Snyder says: “When you think of girls’ volleyball, you think of somebody six-foot, 6-2. Lindsay has been my DS (defensive specialist), my libero, for four years. She loves the sport. She’s been a hard worker for four years. All four years at Quakertown she made the varsity team. Not only did she make the varsity squad, but she was a starter for four years. Lindsay also accomplished all-league all four years. Freshman she was honorable mention, another honorable mention as a sophomore, she moved up to third team and she got second team this year as a senior, and that’s a big accomplishment for a volleyball player at Quakertown.
“Lindsay is always a dependable player. She’s a great role model for all the girls on our team. As captain, her leadership on and off the court earned the respect of her teammates and her coaches. Lindsay demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship. She was always willing to help her fellow teammates and do what was best for the team. When I say she was my libero, my DS – they don’t get all the bells and whistles. They’re the ones that do all the work, but they don’t get the credit for the kills and sets. Lindsay worked really hard all four years. This past year I didn’t have a setter. She was willing to change her position her senior year and step in and be a setter. By the end of the year, she was my outside hitter all the way around. She’s an all-around player and a great athlete, and I’m very proud of her. Aside from Lindsay’s natural abilities on the volleyball court, she’s a humble lady. Lindsay’s personal qualities, strengths and work ethics will help her accomplish everything that she wishes in her dreams, and I wish her the best.”
