Ben Kave – Bloomsburg University (Football)

Major:  Statistics

Final list of colleges:  Bloomsburg, St. Joseph’s University, Penn State, Ursinus College

Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg:  “The opportunity to play football and the campus environment.”

What was the progression that led you to playing football at the collegiate level? “I only played football my junior and senior year.  I played soccer and basketball most of my youth and early high school.  I knew I really enjoyed the sport and my good friends played so I decided to go for it my junior year.  I saw some varsity time on special teams but mostly played jayvee.  At that point, I am not sure playing in college was even a consideration.  Senior year I earned a starting spot as wide receiver and ended up leading the team in touchdowns for the season and was awarded most improved player.  It all just seemed to come naturally to me and I really enjoyed being out there.

“Coach Banas recommended I speak to college coaches that were visiting the school when the season was over. Once I started talking and having good conversations with college coaches, I realized I could really have a shot at playing at the collegiate level.  I met Coach Chesnick (Bloomsburg) in December and we really connected. He reached out to me in January and invited me to come for a visit.  I was really impressed with the university and the facilities and it felt like a great fit.  I am very thankful for Coach Banas and all the coaching staff as well as my teammates for the great experience that led me down a road to this amazing opportunity.”

Coach George Banas says:  “It’s been an absolute pleasure to have Ben on the football team the past two seasons. He’s made tremendous strides at wide receiver and actually led the team in receptions this season. Ben has a tremendous ceiling, and I know that he’ll just keep getting better and better as he’s only been playing football for two years. I know with his hard work ethic and his personality that when he gets to Bloomsburg he’s just going to keep progressing and progressing to a starting role real soon.

“One thing that I remember about Ben is he’s probably the kindest, nicest player that I’ve ever seen on the football field, and I think that might be something that changes over the course of time in college and at the next level where you have to have a little bit of that tenacity and meanness that might come out at the next level. We wish you the best of luck at Bloomsburg.”
