ON Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Quakertown senior Joshua Einolf was recognized for committing to continue his swimming career at Shippensburg University.
Joshua Einolf – Shippensburg University (Swimming)
Major: Physics
Reasons for choosing Shippensburg: “I loved their team, I loved their coach, and it had a good academic program.”
What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level? “I swam since I was a kid. I like it, and I was good.”
Coach Meg Gansz says: “Josh is a four-year varsity swimmer. He’s been a team captain for both his junior and senior years. During his four years, he’s had 52 first-place finishes, 15 second and 10 third-place finishes. He’s been swimming competitively for 12 years as a member of the Quakertown summer swim team and also at the Souderton Area Community Aquatic Club, so he swam not only with the high school – he had two other teams he swam with year-round.
“Last year, he gave diving a try, training at Souderton and then competed in the high school swim meets, and he did pretty well. He surprised a lot of us, but you have to give up a swimming event to dive at meets, and he realized that maybe that wasn’t in the best interests, so his senior year he gave up diving and stuck to swimming only, which was a great decision based on all the records he broke.
“His junior year at SOL champs he placed third in the 200 IM and second in the 100 butterfly. This past season he dropped a total of 5.24 seconds in the IM and received first place this year. In the butterfly, he dropped 2.11 seconds and also earned a first place at SOL champs. Two first places at SOL champs was a huge feat, and he was able to beat his brother’s butterfly record. The Einolf family is a long line of swimmers – all four kids are swimmers. He’s the third of two brothers, and he was swimming in their shadows, especially his freshman and sophomore years, but it was all him the last two years and he really shined.
“He did make it to districts the past years. He has moved up from 25th place to 16th place in the 200 IM, and the same thing from butterfly, he went from 25th place last year and this year placed 17th overall at districts. He was just shy – a hundredth of a second – of going to states, so he was right on the edge. Josh, as you begin your next chapter at Shippensburg University, I wish you much success in the classroom as well as in the pool. They’re really lucky to have you, and I know you’re going to shine.”
