Matthew Lucas – Cairn University (Basketball)

Major:  Pre-med

Final list of colleges:  Cairn, King’s College, Hood, Bucks County Community College, Penn State Altoona

Reasons for choosing Cairn:  “Great academic program in the medical field, Christian school, great athletic program for basketball.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level?  “Progressively improving at basketball and getting recruited made me think about playing at the collegiate level.”

Coach Mike DeCarolis says:  “This is my first year as the basketball coach at Quakertown, so I didn’t get as much time as I would have liked to coach Matt, but in the short amount of time I was fortunate enough to coach him, it’s no surprise that he’s continuing his athletic and academic career at the next level. When you think about what you want out of a student-athlete, you want someone who’s going to be great in the classroom, who’s going to be a great example of what your program needs to be on and off the floor, and Matt is the absolute perfect example of that. He’s the first one in the gym waiting for me to get the basketballs out, he’s the last one in there – I’m begging him to please stop shooting so I can go home, but he’s going to be in there all night working on his game. He’s just someone I was really, really fortunate enough to coach. I’m super excited to see what he does at the next level. I know he’s going to do a great job.”
