Peyton Fries – Alvernia University (Wrestling)

Major: Journalism

Final list of colleges: Alvernia, Ursinus, Muhlenberg

Reasons for choosing Alvernia: “They have a great women’s wrestling program and amazing coaches that I connected with the day I met them. It was the first college I visited and knew that it was the one even after visiting multiple others.”

What was the progression that led you to wrestling at the collegiate level? “I started wrestling my sophomore year and understood that it was only going to get harder from where I was at the time. There was a time in the middle of my senior year where I almost quit but not because of the sport but because I was giving up on myself. I stuck to it and realized it was all mental, and I could only change me. With the help of my family and friends, I got through the hard part.”

Coach Eric Rosencranz says: “Peyton made history. She is the first Quakertown girls’ wrestler to commit to wrestling at the college level. Peyton came out for wrestling her sophomore year before we even really had a girls’ team. That year she went 0-3, but she continued to get better, and it showed in her junior season when she went 16-12 and finished sixth in the non-sanctioned (girls’) state tournament. This past season was officially the first sanctioned PIAA girls’ wrestling season. It was a year of history-making, and Peyton was right in the thick of it. She went 26-12 with 24 wins by fall, and she capped her senior season with a seventh place finish at the PIAA State Tournament. Peyton, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to not only the sport but to your teammates in our program. You not only made history in our young program but have set a high bar for those who come after you. I’m proud of how far you’ve come and look forward to seeing you continue to make history at Alvernia.”
