Souderton Duo to Play Collegiate Lax

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, Souderton seniors Liz Mower and Kaitlin Crouthamel were recognized at a special news conference for signing letters of intent to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.

Liz Mower – Philadelphia University (Lacrosse)
Major:
Fashion Merchandising
Final list of colleges:  Philadelphia University, Slippery Rock
Reasons for choosing Philadelphia University:  “I liked the students and the school as well as the team I’ll be playing with next year. It’s a great school for the major I’m going to pursue, which is fashion merchandising. It’s a good distance away from home, so my family and friends can come to my games, and I’m really excited for next year.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse? “Ever since my sophomore year, I wanted to play basketball in college, but then I tore my ACL. That year was the year I really started to enjoy lacrosse, but I had my injury so had to wait a year and put it on hold until I could play summer lacrosse and started to get recruited.”
Coach Nicole Bauer says:  “Liz was one of the players we pulled up to the varsity her freshman year. She’s just a very athletic girl who’s very versatile in anything she does. She loved playing offense, but when we really needed the ball, she was able to go up on defense and give us that spark of energy.
“Offensively, she was a little hesitant after she had her ACL injury, but once she got her courage back a little bit, she was pretty unstoppable.”

Kaitlin Crouthamel – Millersville University (Lacrosse)
Major:

Final list of colleges:  Millersville, Hartwick, Alfred
Reasons for choosing Millersville:  “I chose Millersville because the coach was really loving and had her arms open for me to come in and play for her team. The team was really close, and it seemed like a good opportunity. Also, their art and psychology program is really strong.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate lacrosse?  “I started thinking about it my freshman year because I always loved lacrosse. The recruiting started my sophomore year, but during my junior year, I tore my ACL and was out for the whole season. Luckily, coach (Mia) Hall at Millersville sees the potential in me.”
Coach Nicole Bauer says: “Kaitlin tore her ACL during her junior year at the beginning of the season, and she worked so hard, updating me with her progress. She was very persistent at getting her position back on the field. She was voted in as a captain, and her teammates really looked to her as someone they could go to, especially the younger girls.”
