On Friday, April 30, 2021, Souderton seniors Averie Doughty, Morgan Molyneaux, Leah Mowery & Taylor Yoder were recognized for committing to compete in collegiate soccer.
Averie Doughty – Bloomsburg University (Soccer)
Major: Education
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, Shippensburg, Moravian
Reasons for choosing Bloomsburg: “I chose Bloomsburg because I loved the campus, I loved the coach, and the team was really family oriented.”
Coach Ian Smith says: “Averie was a senior captain. She’s somebody who is a ruthless competitor. She takes it personally every time we go down a goal, give up the ball or whatever it may be, and she takes it upon herself to make an impact and a difference in the game each and every time she sets foot on the field. A lot of her senior year she was on the sideline and didn’t know until this spring that she was playing through a fractured back. Even through that, she made honorable mention all-league her senior year, and, of course, she is known for scoring one of the most significant goals – if not the most significant goal - in Souderton soccer history, scoring the goal that won the state championship against Pennridge as a sophomore. She was not just a key player but probably the MVP of that state championship run with the goals that she contributed that oftentimes – in the last second of the game – sent us through to the next round. Averie’s legacy at Souderton will be in the history books forever.”
About Averie:
Favorite food: Bacon
Favorite movie: Remember the Titans
Favorite music: Pop/Rap/Country
Morgan Molyneaux – Shippensburg University (Soccer)
Major: Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: Shippensburg, Clarion, Kutztown, Thomas Jefferson, Misericordia
Reasons for choosing Shippensburg: “I chose Shippensburg mainly because of the coach-player relationship, and it just felt like home.”
Coach Ian Smith says: “Morgan Molyneaux is another senior captain and was our goalkeeper. Morgan is somebody who every day does something that makes you stop and say ‘Wow,’ like jaw hit the floor. She comes up with just incredible saves on top of having an incredible personality in terms of leadership. Morgan is also someone that takes things very personally when the team isn’t being successful. She puts a lot of weight on herself to help the team improve. Her skill set as a goalkeeper is some of the best that I’ve ever seen. I personally think Morgan could have played just about anywhere that she wanted to play, and I’m really happy that she found Shippensburg as a place that she felt was warm, welcoming and an environment in which she wanted to play. She was also nominated and won All-Southeast PA Player of the Year, which is a huge accolade. She is the only player I know of in my time coaching here at Souderton who has won that award, and it’s well deserved because coaches throughout our conference – the Suburban One Colonial – had to game plan around her, and they recognized her and her ability to come up with stellar saves each and every game.”
Leah Mowery – Eastern University (Soccer)
Major: Psychology
Final list of colleges: Eastern, Messiah, Grove City
Reasons for choosing Eastern: “I chose Eastern because I really loved the campus, the team environment and the academic programs they had there.”
Coach Ian Smith says: “Leah is somebody who sees the field in a different way than most players. She played attacking center mid for us. I know that Leah is another player who is really thrilled with her choice based on finding the correct fit for herself at Eastern University. I think she’s really going to do well there. I hope she can continue like she did at Souderton to make big plays for them, just sitting in that midfield position and finding passes other people wouldn’t typically see.”
Taylor Yoder – Moravian University (Soccer)
Major: Nursing
Final list of colleges: Moravian, Thomas Jefferson
Reasons for choosing Moravian: “I chose Moravian because they have a really strong nursing program, and I really like the family atmosphere that the soccer program has.”
Coach Ian Smith says: “Taylor Yoder is interesting because she’s somebody who contributed so much offensively in our state championship run when she was a sophomore, and in her senior year, I actually asked her to move to outside back definitely the first time for us and possibly the first time for her in her career. Even with that move, she still made first team all-league and stood out as one of the best defenders in our league. In addition to the incredible skill set that she has as an attacking player, she’s one of the most well-rounded players that I’ve coached, for sure, and on top of that, I was really, really excited with her college selection and her commitment to Moravian College because she’s actually going to be playing for my club coach, Jeff Ykoruk, who is somebody as a player I really looked up to, and I know that she’s going to have a great relationship with him as she plays there and continues to have a stellar collegiate career to add to her already incredible high school career.”
