Angie Carty – Kutztown University (Softball)
Major: Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education
Final list of colleges: Kutztown, Neumann, Shippensburg
Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “I’ve always wanted to go to Kutztown since my freshman year. I went to a lot of their clinics, and I loved their softball program. I also wanted to follow in coach Rummel’s footsteps.”
Favorite softball memory: “My favorite high school memory with softball is definitely my sophomore year when we won the state championship.”
Coach Steph Rummel says: “Angie was a four-year starter. She’s a very aggressive player whether it was at-bat or in the field or on the base paths. She’s just very aggressive, very heads up. She has a good arm, she’s a good communicator. She’s an all-around good player. She knows the game very well, and she’s always working to be better.
“I think she’ll be a great fit at Kutztown. Coach (Judy) Lawes will definitely teach her a lot more to elevate her game even higher. I think Angie will really fit in well and add to the team.”
Sellersville Belles coach Paul Koehler: “Angie first caught my eye when I was the head softball coach at Pennridge High School. It was a 0-0 game at Souderton and she bunted her way on from the right side and went on to steal second and then scored the winning run as a freshman. She then hit a home run (over the fence type) at Druckenmiller off Paige DeCew to help Souderton beat us again. She tried out for the Sellersville Belles and we put her on our squad as an outfielder.
“Angie is our starting centerfielder. She gets a great jump on balls in the outfield and does a terrific job of ‘running our outfield.’ She has a cannon of an arm with bullet-like accuracy throwing to any base, especially home. Offensively, she is the total package. She can play the short game or power game equally. And when she gets on base, she is always a threat to steal or take an extra base.
“She is very excited about her opportunity at Kutztown. Her Souderton coach graduated from Kutztown and I think that has raised her level of wanting to play there.”
