Souderton's Fenchel & Zimmerman to Play Collegiate Basketball

On Friday, April 30, 2021, Souderton seniors Hayley Fenchel & Jordan Zimmerman were recognized for committing to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.

Hayley Fenchel – Grove City College (Basketball)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges:  Grove City, Stevenson
Reasons for choosing Grove City: “I chose Grove City because I really liked their basketball program, and they have strong academics.”
Favorite high school sports memory: “Bus rides to games”
Coach Lynn Carroll says: “Hayley is just a natural gifted athlete. Her speed plus her size really added a lot for us, especially on the defensive end her junior and senior years. She really was willing to play whatever role we needed her to play - whether it was starting a game or coming off the bench, whether it was looking for her own shot or taking a back seat every once in a while. Her teammates loved her, and she did a good job leading the team, especially in a weird year where we weren’t together all that much for stretches. I’m really glad she wants to continue her basketball career, and she’ll be a great addition to Grove City.”

Jordan Zimmerman – Lebanon Valley College (Basketball)
Major: Exercise Science and then going into the Physical Therapy program
Final list of colleges: Lebanon Valley, Wesley University, Widener
Reasons for choosing Lebanon Valley: “I chose LVC because I really liked the campus, and their programs were fantastic.”
Favorite high school sports memory:  Winning districts”
Coach Lynn Carroll says:  “I feel like Jordan’s path is no longer a traditional path. She came in as a skilled freshman and basically had to wait her turn because when she was a freshman it was Kate Connolly, Tori Dowd and those guys, and she was there to watch them win a district title. She was a varsity player, practiced every day with us, but she had to hang in there and wait her turn. Even the following season, now she’s playing behind guards Megan O’Donnell, Megan Bealer, Curran O’Donnell and Megan Walbrandt. Many years she would have been on the court as a freshman, but she just kind of had to wait, came through the ranks, and she stepped on the court as a junior as though she had already been doing it. She has an extremely high basketball IQ, and she’s a great, great kid. At 5-3, she led the team in offensive fouls taken and just did all the little things. She would be the first to joke that she wasn’t a very good defender as a freshman, and by the time she graduated, she was solid because she wanted to be. It was just really, really fun to watch her progression from her freshman to senior season.”
About Jordan:
Favorite food:  French Fries
Favorite TV show: Jane the Virgin
