Ashley Paturzo – Brown University (Field Hockey)

Major: Biology on pre-med track

Final list of colleges: Brown, Johns Hopkins, Wesleyan University

Reasons for choosing Brown: “I chose Brown for the caliber of the athletics and the academics and because of their really positive team-oriented environment that the wonderful coaches really emphasize.”

Favorite Souderton sports memory: “My favorite memory was our second game against CB West this year. It was one of our last home games. We had lost to CB West 8-2 at the beginning of the season, so it’s safe to say we had pretty low expectations, but we ended up winning 1-0 in overtime, and the feeling of running to hug my teammates and coaches was absolutely indescribable.”

Coach Sue Casciato says: “Ashley so articulate, she is super mature, she’s a natural leader, and she has tons of tenacity. She’s had a couple of injuries that she’s had to fight through. She’s a student of the game. I’ve coached her since she was in eighth grade, and we’d go to indoor tournaments. Everybody else would sit in a circle and goof around, and she’d be on the bleachers watching another game. This year, after we lost to Downingtown West, and the next round of districts was Downingtown West and CB West - I went to watch the game, and Ashley and her mom were there. She’s just a person who likes field hockey. She’s an athlete, but because she works so hard and is so committed – she’s made herself a great player.”
