Souderton senior Frank Pollock was recognized for committing to continue his baseball career at the University of the Sciences.

Frank Pollock – University of the Sciences (Baseball)

Major:  Pharmaceutical Sciences

Reasons for choosing USciences: “I was getting a lot of interest from local D3 and D2 schools, but I chose USciences because of their education. I also really like their head coach and what he has planned for the team and the program. Everything just worked out for USciences.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level? “I started playing baseball when I was three, and I always knew I wanted to go as far as I could. Once I got to high school, playing in college was definitely a realistic possibility.”

Coach Mike Childs says: “Frank is a kid that started off catching and wanted to make varsity as a sophomore. We didn’t know where he was going to play – we moved him to first base last year as a junior for the first time because we knew he could hit. For him to step up like he did not only during the season but in the playoffs picking balls. Against Neshaminy in the state semifinal, we were up 3-1, and there was an infield ball – the throw short-hopped and took off high, he snared it and ended the game. In the state championship, there was a ball that Brian Reiner charged (at third base), threw off of his back foot, and Frank snared that. If he wouldn’t have picked that, it would have gone into the outfield and two more runs would have scored and put us down 5-0. This year he said, ‘Coach, what do you think my role is?’ I was honestly in a dilemma because he was our number one/two catcher between him and Hort (Jake Horton), and he was also our number one first baseman. It was a decision we were going to have to make.

“Frank was also a leader. He’s very quiet but he says things to motivate, and people listen to him. He had that calm air about him. He wasn’t a rah-rah guy, but he was respected. He was definitely a pleasure to work with. Watching a kid develop for four years is like watching my kid grow – you watch, and you’re proud of their accomplishments. When they reach their goals, that’s what’s really cool about it. All three of these guys – Frank, Conlan Wall and Brian Reiner, their goal was college baseball and all of them made it. Just watching them develop over four years – I use the three of them as examples.”
