On Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, Springfield Township senior Nick Pave was recognized for signing a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Lehigh University. Visit the Photo Gallery for photos of the signing event.
Nick Pave – Lehigh University (Baseball)
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Final list of colleges: Lehigh, Maryland, North Carolina State
Reasons for choosing Lehigh: “The academics of the school are so good, and that really helped out with the decision. Honestly, I wasn’t thinking too much about it when they first called me, but I went to the campus and I just loved it. It was such a beautiful area, and the field was amazing.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level? “I started out in little league, playing t-ball, and when I was 10 or 11, I realized – I’m good at this, and this is something I really love.”
Coach Dennis Primavera says: “Nick is just a great kid. He’s got a great personality. Every coach should have a Nick Pave on the team. It makes coaching so pleasurable and easy. He’s a student of the game, he knows what he wants to get done, he’s a good athlete, and he works hard. He has never been a problem – he’s teachable, he’s coachable. He has all the qualities that Lehigh University is going to love. This is my sixth year, and he is the first D-I pitcher that I’ve had that signed for a scholarship. He deserves everything that he gets because Nick Pave is the kind of kid that you want this to happen to.”
Pro Tech coach Brian Good says: “He’s been at it for a while, and I think what made him so good was the slow and steady, continuing hard work and development over the years. He’s always been a hard thrower. Back when he was 12 years old, he could throw the ball really hard, but he developed hand-eye coordination, a great feel for his pitches, great control. All the things that take really hard work over the years, he added to his already strong arm.”
