Chelsea Gallagher – Elizabethtown College (Volleyball)
Major: Occupational Therapy
Final list of colleges: Elizabethtown, Millersville, Manhattan College, King’s College
Reasons for choosing Elizabethtown: “Five-year program for occupational therapy, and I love the campus.”
What was the progression that led you to playing volleyball at the collegiate level? “Playing club volleyball. I realized I wanted to pursue it in 10th grade.”
Coach Brian Bassler says: “Chelsea was an outside hitter, and she played all the way around for us. The thing that stood out with her was she constantly improved every year. She never settled. She wanted to be the best player on the team, and she was a great teammate.
“Chelsea was our best server by far at placing the ball around the court. She could go short, she could go to any server we were picking out, and she also was a very smart hitter on the outside. The same way she used her serve - she could pick spots on the court. She didn’t necessarily have to get up and hit the ball the hardest, but she could get just as many kills as anyone else on any given night.”

Cecilia ‘CC’ Weir – Holy Family University (Volleyball)
Major: Special Education
Final list of colleges: Holy Family, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Holy Family: “I liked the small campus and the coach.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate volleyball? “Playing club volleyball. I picked volleyball over soccer in 11th grade and knew I wanted to play at the next level.”
Coach Brian Bassler says: “CC was amazing. I always use her as an example now. When people think of volleyball, you think of a big, tall athletic girl, and CC was just amazing. She’s probably the most amazing player we’ve had come through, and it was because of her focus and her ability to adapt. If other teams looked at her, they wouldn’t really know what hit them until she got out there and played against them.
“She was another great teammate. Her focus was amazing. She was just somebody you could count on all the time. I always told her ‘I’d rather have you at your worst than some other people at their best.’
“Defensively, she would just frustrate other teams by herself. You could see the girls on the other side of the net sometimes kind of throwing their hands up. Other coaches would talk to me after the match and say, ‘We had nowhere to go.’ She wasn’t really anybody that needed a lot of coaching back there. Her instincts were unbelievable. She could read the hitters, and she would almost get to a spot before they hit the ball, and that’s what really made her stand out. She didn’t have to react to anything. She was always proactively moving around and anchoring the defense.”
