Evan Profy – West Chester University (Baseball)
Major: Kinesiology
Final list of colleges: West Chester, Coastal Carolina
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “West Chester was closer to home. It’s a nice town, it’s welcoming, and I really liked the coaches. A big reason is that I could play sooner - I could possibly play freshman year.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level? “I always wanted to play in college. When I was younger, I didn’t know if I was ever going to, but just playing and having coaches talk about it made it feel more real. The Big 26 was a big help – the coaches there really helped and reached out to other coaches. They were trying to get everyone there to play for college.”
Coach Tim Monaghan says: “Evan is a shining example of what it means to be a Truman Tiger. He’s a great student-athlete, a hard worker, an excellent student, and even more importantly, he’s a great person. He’s the kind of kid that you absolutely want to have on your team, the kind of kid you want to go to war with.
“When he was a freshman, he was a swing varsity/jayvee player. As a sophomore, he was hitting .700 through his first 10 games of varsity as a slap hitter, hitting ground balls to the left side of the infield and using his ridiculous speed to get on base. He’s made that next step to now he’s driving balls in the gap. He’s one of the better defensive players in the league, and he’s got one of the strongest arms in the league.
“With that, his leadership has developed as well. He was kind of a lead by example guy, and now he’s taking a more vocal role in showing the younger guys the right way to act, the right way to behave. He has great practice habits, the way to handle adversity. He’s a tremendous kid. I can’t say enough positive things about the kind of person Evan Profy is. I couldn’t be more proud of his accomplishments throughout his four years, and he ended up in a really good place at West Chester University.”
