Marissa Holl – Lafayette College (Track)
Major: Economics
Final list of colleges: Lafayette, Pitt, Boston University
Reasons for choosing Lafayette: “It had a good combination of athletics and academics, a variety of majors, beautiful campus, and it is close to home. When I went on my official visit, everyone was so welcoming, and I felt at home.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level? “I started running AAU track for Ambler Olympic Club when I was about eight. I continued running through middle school and high school. Freshman year I started running cross country, indoor and outdoor track. The coaches have helped me improve in ways I never imagined possible. I’ve loved being part of a team. I couldn’t imagine not being a part of a team in college and not running.
“The recruiting process started last summer when I started emailing coaches and went on visits in the fall and winter.”
Cross country coach Tony Giammarco says: “Marissa has been a four-year varsity runner on the cross country team and has won multiple honors, including several first team all-league team honors. She’s a leader on and off the course, she’s very hard working, and she never misses a day of practice. She’s totally committed to the team. We’re very proud of her, and we hope she does very well at Lafayette.”
Track coach Paul Vandegrift says: “I coached Marissa during the indoor season, and she is a good team leader. She could always be counted on, and though she had some struggles at times with her competitiveness, she really matured, especially during her senior season and did a fine job competing and improving her performances. She took two of our relay teams to the state championship.”
