Christian Huckfeldt – University of Scranton (Baseball)

Major: Exercise Science

Final list of colleges: Scranton, Misericordia, Lebanon Valley, Gettysburg

Reasons for choosing Scranton: “Scranton has a great exercise science curriculum that leads to an even better physical therapy program. I had an awesome experience on my overnight with the baseball team, so that solidified my decision.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level? “I really started thinking about playing college baseball after my sophomore year. I had some great senior leadership, which gave me confidence on the mound. During my junior year, I worked a lot on my form and mechanics, which opened up even more doors. I started to talk to Coach Bartoletti and the rest of the Scranton coaching staff last spring, which gave them plenty of time to come see a game.”

Coach Ed Wall says: “Christian has played multiple sports here at the high school. Luckily for us, he’s focused in on baseball the last couple of years, and he really stepped up to be the leadership and the heartbeat of the team. He and John Lee were here in 2012 when the team moved on into the state playoffs, and it’s like they carried the torch for that group and really put our guys in a good frame of mind this season, and it led to a lot of success.
“Pitching is his strength, but there are a whole host of intangibles that you get with Christian that you have to cultivate a lot more with the average player. With him, it comes natural. He says the right thing, he knows when to pump everyone up. He knows when to calm people down. He’s a team guy – it’s not all about him, and that’s what makes it so much fun to coach him.”
