Reasons for choosing Gwynedd Mercy:  Great education program and opportunities

What was the progression that led you to playing your sport at the collegiate level?  “With everything that has been going on, I really wanted to find a college that I love before looking into playing softball. It was always a dream to play ball in college, and I am lucky enough to find a school that has everything I love.”

Coach Heather Boyer says: “Ally McDaid is a four-year member of the softball squad, three-year varsity. I pulled her up (to the varsity) her sophomore year. She was kind of a pivotal role player there. She did a lot of base running for us because she is quick, she is fast, and she’s got great intuition on the bases. She can just see things and react to them so quickly which makes her really a threat. This year alone she led our team with stolen bases. She was definitely the best base runner that we had, so we’re certainly going to miss that about her next year, and I know it’s going to be a huge attribute for Gwynedd Mercy to have from an offensive standpoint.

“Ally is gritty, and she’ll do whatever you ask of her. By trade, she really is a good infielder, a really good shortstop, but because she’s quick and gets a great jump on the ball, she’s also a tremendous outfielder, so since our bigger holes this year were in the outfield, we needed her to shift there, and she did a really good job in left field, making some unbelievable catches and just really kind of filling the void that was left by some of our seniors that graduated in 2020. She’s a great overall kid. She’s got a lot of spunk, a lot of energy that brings some fun and almost a comedy level to our program, which sometimes you need in a sport like softball where it can get intense and a little bit too serious at times. Ally’s sense of humor tends to bring that back in and keeps things real and keeps them fun and energetic, and we really appreciate that about her too.”
