On Friday, April 12, 2024, Upper Moreland’s Makaila Allen was recognized for committing to compete in basketball at the collegiate level.
Makaila Allen – Harcum College (Basketball)
Major: Criminology/Social Justice
Final list of colleges: Harcum, Rosemont, Penn State Abington
Reasons for choosing Harcum: “Harcum set the standard for how the community is – everyone seemed so loving. When I went there on my visit, they accepted me immediately. I just loved it.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level? “I was a ballerina at first – I used to do dance, so I never knew I was going to play basketball. I actually just started to get in it last year, and I just worked the hardest to be the greatest I could.”
Coach Josh Adelman says: “Makaila was a very hard worker and very coachable. She came off the bench for us and provided very good minutes at the center and power forward positions. Makaila was a physical presence and grabbed rebounds, played tough defense, and contributed on the scoreboard with putbacks and mid-range shots. She set tremendous screens to free up her teammates for scoring opportunities and was a very good teammate. She never complained and filled her role for our team this year. I believe her best basketball is ahead of her as she continues to play and get coached at the college level.”
