Upper Moreland's Allison Ludlow to Play Volleyball at Moravian

Upper Moreland senior Allison Ludlow will continue her volleyball career at Moravian College. Since UM does not have a girls’ volleyball program, Ludlow played on the club circuit for Infinity and also worked out in an unofficial capacity with Hatboro-Horsham’s volleyball team. Allison Ludlow – Moravian College (Volleyball)

Major:  Environmental Science

Final list of colleges:  Moravian, Washington & Jefferson, Lycoming

Reasons for choosing Moravian:  “Great academics, great volleyball team, beautiful campus and nice area surrounding the college.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in volleyball at the collegiate level?  “I started thinking about playing volleyball in sixth grade to try something new. I fell in love with the game and continued to play club from eighth grade on. Starting sophomore year, I became a practice player/manager at Hatboro-Horsham High School since Upper Moreland doesn’t have a team, and I knew some of the coaches from club ball.

“I started thinking about playing in college as I became more passionate about the game and my knowledge grew with exposure to the school volleyball atmosphere.  I started the recruiting process at the beginning of my junior year.”

Coach Jon Young says:  “She played for Hatboro-Horsham coaches at Infinity in club, and she had built some relationships with some of the kids playing at club that Hatboro-Horsham had kids playing at. We found out Upper Moreland didn’t have a team, and for Allie, that was a big stopping point for her because volleyball is so important to her. She became part of the (Hatboro-Horsham) family very, very quickly.

“She is, without question and regardless of age, one of the best people I know from a standpoint of morality, integrity and work ethic. On top of that, she brings skill to the game that I wish we could have been able to have her in our program in an official capacity. Especially from a defensive standpoint, she’s a knockout and probably one of the hardest workers I’ve ever had in 20 seasons of doing this.

“What really impresses me is her ability to learn and grow and, quite frankly, just continually figure out how to get better at what she does. She has a quiet sense of competition to her, and as soon as she’s on the court, you’ll know – that kid is here to play. There were hundreds of times I wish we could have put that kid on the court but just didn’t have the capability to. She’s going to do very, very well at Moravian.

“She is – and I mean this in all sincerity – the heart of the family of our program. Everybody loves her, no question about it. Credit to her for being one of the more competitive and work oriented players in our program. She would come and show up a lot of our players at practice even though she knew she had no capability to step on the court. Her character is unmatched.”
