Jenna Sadowski – Stevenson University (Softball)

Major:  Chemistry

Final list of colleges:  Stevenson, Penn State Berks, Johnson & Wales, Kean, Kutztown, Muhlenberg

Reasons for choosing Stevenson:  “Stevenson gave me the best opportunity to play softball and gave me a good spot on the team. It gave me an opportunity to pursue athletics and also will give me a good education that I thought would best suit me. It also gave me good internship opportunities in that location. I fell in love with the campus, and there are great people down there in Maryland. It gave me a chance to go out of state but still stay close to home.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “Ever since I was younger, I knew I wanted to go further. I watched a lot of girls at the high school level pursue softball in college, and I knew I wanted to be one of those people. I fell in love with the sport ever since I was eight, so it’s been a long journey, but I always knew I wanted to keep going. I worked so hard, and I wanted it to pay off.”

Coach Scott Ludlow says:  “Jenna has been an important part of our program for four years, the last three particularly. She’s gotten better as the years have gone on. This year she was a first team all-league selection at pitcher.  The last two years she pretty much split games with Jocelyn Baumeister, and this year when she wasn’t pitching, she played first base. She understood she couldn’t pitch every game. She worked hard every time she went out there, and she got better as the season went on. She was 7-1 or 6-1 in league games this year, 6-2 the year before. She’s probably got a .750 win percentage. You knew what you were going to get every game when you put her out there. She’s a next-pitch kind of kid. She thinks the game. When she’s on the mound, she’s not thinking what happened the batter before, but how do I get the next batter. Her demeanor on the mound is one of her strongest assets. She’s one of those kids - you look out there and you can’t tell if you’re up 10 runs or down 10 runs. One thing she always gave us was good control.
“Offensively, if you look at her stats the last three years, I think her largest area of improvement was at the plate. She went from a seven, eight or nine hitter early on to a four or five hitter this year pretty much the entire season. She put balls in play, she hit balls hard. Offensively, she made great strides from early on in her high school career. Not that she didn’t improve on the pitching end – she absolutely did. She was a huge piece of our success the last three years without a question.”
