Caitlin Somerville – Misericordia University (Soccer)
Major: Nursing
Final list of colleges: Misericordia University, University of Scranton, Moravian College, Ursinus College
Reasons for choosing Misericordia: “I chose Misericordia because of their nationally recognized nursing program, high academic standards and welcoming campus atmosphere. They have a very successful soccer program that is consistently ranked nationally, and I really connected with Coach (Mark) Stauffer and his approach to the game.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I knew I wanted to play soccer in college when I was in middle school. My recruiting process started my sophomore year by attending ID Clinics and playing in national college showcases with my FC Bucks ECNL team under Coaches Audrey Anderson and Mike Koch.”
Coach Bill Hontz says: “Caitlin is an exceptional young lady on and off the field. I had a chance to coach her in middle school before she went to Villa for her ninth grade year. I was excited to hear she was transferring to Tennent her 10th grade year. She works hard honing her talents with her younger sister Erin on the soccer field. Especially when COVID hit back in the spring, she was working hard with her sister getting in shape for the season, and she came in strong, completing most of our fitness workouts towards the top every day.
“She was a solid captain, never letting anything get to her on the field and always wanting to know what she can do to improve. Misericordia will be very lucky to have her and the commitment that she brings to her soccer talent along with her drive to become a nurse and continue to help those in need, something like she does here at Tennent. Caitlin is not the loudest person on the field, but she is calm and collected and really did a great job feeding the ball to help her teammates score. Speaking for all the coaches and myself, we are going to miss her and wish her luck.”
