Major: Chemistry
Reasons for choosing Shippensburg: “I want to be successful both academically and in athletics. Shippensburg has a well-rounded track team and the major I want to pursue. It is a great opportunity to open the doors to a new world and make new memories.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level? “My sister is running track and cross country in college, and she inspired me to continue running in college. I also had coaches who supported me and allowed me to see the potential I have. I have been running track since I was little, and I want to keep growing my abilities.
“The recruiting process started senior year when the Shippensburg coach visited our high school Lehigh meet one Friday.”
Coach Heidi Butt says: “Lieke was a committed leader to Wissahickon Track & Field for eight seasons. She consistently worked to her fullest potential and supported the program completely. Her humility was a hallmark of her demeanor never wanting the attention her performances warranted. Although Lieke suffered an impactful foot injury just before the post-season her senior year, she continued to invest her time and energies to her healing and her teammates. She always chose relays over individual events because she never wanted to disappoint a coach or teammate.
“Coaching Lieke was a true pleasure. She was always receptive, respectful, and resilient. More importantly, she was kind. Shippensburg is lucky to have her compete for them. Her positive nature, talent, intensity, and sense of humor will be assets at the collegiate level.”
