On Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, Wissahickon senior Leah Dubin was recognized for committing to continue her basketball career at Dickinson College.

Leah Dubin – Dickinson College (Basketball)

Major:  Pre-health

Reasons for choosing Dickinson:  “Dickinson is a great school academically, athletically and socially. I really enjoyed getting to know the coach and meeting the team and feel as though the community is a great fit for me. Roll Devs!”

What was the progression that led you to competing in basketball at the collegiate level?  “I have played basketball my whole life and have always wanted to play in college. I was looking at several Centennial Conference schools since my dad played basketball in that league. Over the summer, at an AAU tournament in DC, the Dickinson coach watched me play, and that’s when my relationship with Dickinson began.”

Coach Rodney Cline says:  “What made Leah so good was her passion and drive to win and to be the best she could be to make her team better. She wanted to play the best she could play, but she really, really wanted to win, and she would do anything she could to help the team win. She played tenacious defense, and her relentless motor was just amazing. You always knew out on the court she was going to give 150 percent regardless what the situation was.

“She drove our car, she controlled the pace. You never had to worry about being pressed, especially man press. She controlled the tempo of our offense and the tempo of our defense also. She was on both ends of the court. That’s what we really missed (when she was out with an injury). We were playing against Abington when she got hurt, and we were up 6-0 and they were pressing us. Maybe we would have lost that game still, but I know it would have been closer.

“Leah was a two-year captain selected by her teammates. Her leadership wasn’t only by example, but it was by her delivery to the rest of the girls – she was constructive and encouraging at the same time, and that’s not always easy.”
