Wissahickon's Emma & Sam Baker Commit to Play Collegiate Lacrosse

On Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, Wissahickon seniors Emma Baker and Sam Baker were recognized for committing to continue their lacrosse careers at the collegiate level.

Emma Baker – Towson University (Lacrosse)

Major: Business/Finance

Reasons for choosing Towson: “I chose Towson for its location, the majors it offered and the lacrosse program.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “Ever since I was in sixth grade, I was playing club lacrosse. I always wanted to play at the collegiate level. About freshman year is when they inform you that college coaches are watching and to email as many as you can. On Sept. 1, 2020, is when I was now able to legally talk to coaches which was extremely exciting. From there, it all unfolded into where I am now.”

Coach Jamie Kane says: “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Emma Baker in lacrosse. I have several awesome memories of Emma, some of which include being Suburban One American Conference undefeated champions, leading our team in draw controls – which, if we didn’t have her draw controls, we wouldn’t have had the ball, and leading our entire team in scoring as well as scoring her 100th goal before the end of the season as a junior.

“One of my favorite memories was this impressive moment in practice where Emma was full sprint running down the field and received a pass about five feet behind her. She reached back with one hand, caught the pass, brought it back into her cradle, ran down the field and was able to set up and assist and score. Emma is one very athletic, aggressive and determined young lady, which I think will serve her well in life. I wish Emma the best of luck next year at Towson University and can’t wait to see her play.”

Sam Baker – Ithaca College (Lacrosse)

Major: Business Administration/Finance

Reasons for choosing Ithaca:  “I chose Ithaca because of the cool vibes and the great lacrosse team.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I’ve played lacrosse all my life and realized that if I were to go to college without it, a huge portion of my life would be missing. At the same time, I knew that once college passed, I would need a respectable degree from a respectable institution.”

Coach Matt Conway says:  “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Sam the past four years. Sam is a great kid. What stands out about him is how competitive he is as a player. He never wants to come off the field. He is also always looking for ways to improve and works hard in the offseason to do so. I am excited to follow his career at Ithaca which is a great program and fits Sam's style of play well.”
