On Monday, May 3, 2021, Wissahickon senior Matt Fritz was recognized for committing to continue his lacrosse career at Ohio State University.

Reasons for selecting Ohio State: “I chose Ohio State for many great reasons but, most notably, because of their academic and athletic prestige. The alumni networking is awesome, and the school does a great job preparing its students for the future.
“The moment I stepped on the campus, I knew it was where I wanted to be. I love the fact that it is a large school yet its campus didn’t feel too big. Also, I built a great relationship with the coaches immediately, and I know that they are the type of people I want to have coaching and pushing me through my college career. The amazing people involved with the Ohio State lacrosse program separated the school from all others.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I started playing lacrosse in first grade with my township program and joined my club team, Philadelphia Big 4 HHH, in seventh grade. I always wanted to play lacrosse in college, but it started to become much more realistic once I reached the high school tournaments on the club circuit.
“The recruiting process started on Sept. 1, 2019, the beginning of my junior year. I verbally committed to Ohio State in December of 2019 and signed my NLI in November of 2020.”
Coach Matt Conway says: “Since his freshman year, Matt Fritz has pretty much taken every face-off for us and done an awesome job. He is probably one of the smallest kids on the field at all times, but you would not know it by the way he plays. He’s tough as it gets. I can’t wait to watch him at Ohio State. He is just an awesome kid as well off the field.”
