On Monday, May 3, 2021, Wissahickon senior Caroline Hassall was recognized for committing to continue her soccer career at the University of New Haven.

Reasons for choosing New Haven: “Great reputation for my major, small school, beautiful campus, loved the team, coaches and soccer program, lots of connections in my major’s field.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I started thinking about playing college soccer in eighth grade. I grew up with a strong love and passion for the game, and when I hit eighth grade, I knew I wanted to continue playing the game at the collegiate level. However, I didn’t actually start the recruiting process until the fall semester of my senior year. I started late because I was on track to join the US Marines, but ultimately realized college was the right next step and then started the process. I was super lucky during the entire recruiting process because Division 2 sports were not in a recruiting dead period (like D-1), and although she had never seen me play in person or met me in person, New Haven’s coach – Laura Duncan – got back to me in a month, called me and offered me a spot on the team, so I was very lucky and I am super grateful for the opportunity.”
Coach Chris McDaniels says: “Caroline was our goalkeeper and was fantastic the past couple of years. Her commitment to improving her craft – she’s one of those student-athletes who was really committed to improving every time out. She was always early to practice and always late after practice working on things. She was just really inclusive of all the other girls on the team and always, for me, set the right tone and set the right example.”
