Wissahickon's Stelzer & Kasenchar to Play Collegiate Soccer

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, Wissahickon seniors Sage Stelzer and Margo Kasenchar were recognized for committing to continue their soccer careers at the collegiate level.

Margo Kasenchar – Ithaca College (Soccer)
Major:
Undecided
Reasons for choosing Ithaca: “I loved the atmosphere of the campus and the location. The coaching staff was wonderful to work with, and I felt really comfortable and welcomed to the team environment.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “Once I decided to play at the collegiate level, the process moved very quickly. Being part of a club team that was all going through the same process helped to guide me along the way. For me, it was all about finding the right atmosphere and school/soccer balance.”
Coach Chris McDaniels says:  “Margo stepped in as a freshman and became the anchor to a defensive unit that improved every year with her leadership. Margo led her teammates with words and actions, regularly sacrificing her body to make tackles and win headers, helping us to get quality results. Margo’s stature and physicality are what you see first, but watch closely, and you’ll see a two-footed player with great technical ability.  Lastly, Margo was a selfless leader who regularly played through injuries every year, always putting the team first.”
About Margo:
Favorite food:
Mac and Cheese
Favorite movie: The Santa Claus
Favorite music: Any upbeat song

Sage Stelzer – University of Pittsburgh (Soccer)
Major:
Business
Final list of colleges: Pitt, Virginia Commonwealth, Penn, Boston University
Reasons for choosing Pitt: “I chose Pitt because it has everything I want in a school – high level soccer, school spirit and great academics. Right when I stepped on campus, I knew that I could see myself at Pitt. The coaches are amazing and determined to advance the program, which I am excited to be a part of.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “Since I have been playing at Penn Fusion Soccer Academy, my goal has always been to play collegiate soccer. The recruiting process started as early as my freshman year, travelling all over the country for recruiting showcases. In February of my junior year, my communication advanced with the Pitt coaches. After attending the ID Camp and being on campus, I knew Pitt was where I wanted to attend college.”
Coach Chris McDaniels says: "Sage is an outstanding two-way player. At her best position, right back, she is able to shut down wingers and also get forward to contribute to the attack. Her athleticism is top notch, and her soccer ability combined with her vision allows her to rack up goals and assists when she goes forward. At Wiss, we often had to play her centrally to get her on the ball as much as possible. Her soccer IQ resulted in her adapting quickly to the new role, and she stood out as a midfield player as well."
