On Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, Gianna Trerotola was recognized for committing to continue her softball career at Gwynedd Mercy University.
Gianna Trerotola – Gwynedd Mercy University (Softball)
Major: Early Education
Reasons for choosing Gwynedd Mercy: “To play softball there, it’s close by, it’s a small school and has a very nice campus.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing softball since I was little and playing it just makes me happy. I knew I wanted to play in college by junior year because I had a great school ball season, and so that summer, the recruiting process started when I began reaching out to colleges more. I then got in contact with Coach David (Hoch), the Gwynedd softball coach, and knew I would want to go there for college.”
Wissahickon coach Mike Borkowski: “Gianna – since she was a freshman until now -has grown as a player and as a leader tremendously – 100 percent. She’s someone who shows that if you work hard – you get to the top. She was a freshman who struggled pitching here and there. Last year, as a junior, she was third team all-league as a pitcher. She’s really, really come on as a terrific center fielder, which she’ll be playing at Gwynedd. Just everything about her - her game has improved tremendously.
“She was elected a captain this year again. She’s what I call a dinner table kid – one of the kids you would love to have at your dinner table. She’s just an all-around terrific kid. Her family is great. I can’t say enough about them. She deserves everything she has coming to her because of her hard work. I’m so proud of her and all the things she’s accomplished. She’s just a great kid. I’m going to miss her. She’s all around just a terrific kid.”
