This game was a battle of the only two unbeaten teams in our league. Both teams were very physical and played with so much heart! It was an amazing high level intense high school game. Wissahickon scored quickly at the start of the game, it was a back and forth game until the last 2 minutes of the first half when UM was able to go up by 2 to end the half. Wissahickon scored 2 goals in the beginning of the second half and tied the game at 20:51. It was a back and forth second half, but Wissahickon ended up going up by 2 with a little over 5 minute left.
I couldn’t be more proud of how we played today - we fought until the last minute. We never got frustrated and never gave up, we just kept playing our game. After such a fast paced game, wissahickon held the ball the last couple of minutes and we still battled hard to come up with a ball and go down for a final shot. It was all heart and determination. Emma Baker for Wissahickon had a great game overall, and really turned up her game in the second half. Emma hurley for UM in the first half really had some amazing saves to keep us up by two to end the half. Her stick broke on a save from a hard shot, and she had to play most of the second half with a different stick and she still came up with several key saves. Emma Hurley also reached her 100th save for this season. Annalise Messina was a huge presence on the field both on defense and attack! As a freshman her emotional leadership is notable and was prevalent in this game. Heidi Wittick continues to bring composure and competitiveness to this team as a prominent senior midfielder. She was dialed in on the defensive end, reactive in the midfield, and calming on the offensive end. As a whole, every team member played with immense grit and contributed to giving Wissahickon sixty straight minutes of competition. In the end this game will definitely help us to be a better team for playoffs and we grew just a little more today as a team. This game could have gone either way - it just didn’t fall in our favor this time. This team has some of the best chemistry I have ever coached, we hope to have a few extra weeks of lacrosse coming our way.
