SOL National Conference
ABINGTON 3, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1 (25-13, 24-26, 25-18, 25-14)
The Ghosts continued their torrid finish to the regular season, winning for the ninth time in 11 games.
“We needed a total team effort from our starters and bench to get this win tonight,” Abington coach Jason Barshinger said. “Council Rock South challenged us and did a great job closing out a tight second set.”
“I am incredibly proud of the season that we have had this year. We continued to progress and build on our system play. The players have worked hard to put a great product on the floor, and it leaves us excited for the future of Abington volleyball.”
The Ghosts’ long list of contributors included Colin Mulvihill (13 assists, 1 kill, 2 digs, .5 blocks), Ben Holler (7 kills, 3 digs), Myles Winegrad (7 kills, 1 ace), Xavier Voit (1 assist, 1 dig), Zach Miller (1 kill, 1 dig), Jake Kosik (7 digs, 3 assists, 3 aces), Michael Lyou (1 kill), Shaun Bustin (2 kills), Joseph Clark (3 kills, 4 blocks), Mario D’Alessio (1 dig), Dominic DaSilva (3 kills, 1 dig, 1 ace), Nikolay Grinyuk (3 digs), Patrick McBride (3 digs, 2 aces), Jack Scharnikow (1 ace) and Thomas O’Malley (1 dig).
Abington closed out its regular season with a 13-6 record overall. The Ghosts were 8-6 in conference play. Council Rock South (2-14 SOL) finished its season with a 2-18 record.
NESHAMINY 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1 (21-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-22)
The conference champion Redskins wrapped up a perfect regular season with a hard-fought win over the Indians.
"Playing the same team twice in three days is never an easy task, especially against a well-coached CR North team,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “They hustled and had some great touches all night long which made us work hard for every point. Glad to see our guys battle throughout the match and pull out the victory. Time to get healthy before the playoff run."
Setter Brandon Sloskey had a busy night, handing out 46 assists and also contributing one kill, five digs and one block. Josh Clendening (18 kills, 3 digs, 3 blocks), Dan Berzin (16 kills, 3 aces, 10 digs), Ben Clendening (9 kills, 1 dig, 5 blocks, 1 assist), Josh Hamilton (5 kills, 7 digs, 3 aces, 1 block, 1 assist) and Kieran Edwards (5 kills, 3 blocks) all made their presence felt at the net. Michael Sooby led the defense with 15 digs to go along with three assists. Joey LaBella added three digs.
For the Indians, Brady Klein had 12 kills, 16 digs, two aces and three blocks, and Keertan Palayam added nine kills and one block to lead the attack. Anthony DePalo finished with six kills, and Nick Alleborn had five kills and two blocks. Setter Dylan Vanschaick had 32 assists, five kills, one block and 11 digs. Nick Cirincione led the defense with 26 digs.
Neshaminy (14-0 SOL) finished its regular season with an 18-0 record. Council Rock North was 11-4 in league play.
PENNSBURY 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-16, 29-27, 25-22)
The Falcons evened their conference record to 7-7 and 8-8 overall with their sweep of the Owls.
Nate Knapp (12 kills out of 18 attack attempts, .500 hitting percentage, 1 ace, 2 digs, 1 block) and Nate Sadley (14 kills, .500, 5 aces, 2 digs, 4 blocks) both had big nights at the net. Noah Maslow (8 kills, .313, 1 ace, 4 digs), Brian Drewes (4 kills, 2 digs) and Evan Brown (3 kills, .750, 3 blocks) also contributed.
Setter Jon Nixon handed out 39 assists to go along with one kill, one ace and three digs. Brady Burgfechtel added 10 digs and three assists.
Bensalem closed out its conference season with a 4-10 record. They were 9-10 overall.
SOL American Conference
PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-9)
The Rams closed their regular season with a convincing win over the Patriots, clinching a share of the SOL American Conference with Upper Dublin.
Setter Riley Kodidek had 27 asissts, 3 blocks, 2 aces. On the receiving end of those helpers were Nick Smith (9 kill, .818 hitting percentage, 4 blocks), Tyler Johnson (5 kills, .556, 3 blocks, 2 aces), Thomas McKinney (7 kills, 2 blocks), Jude Rotondo (5 kills, 2 aces) and Bryce Ammon (4 kills, 2 aces). Alex Derk had seven digs.
For the Patriots, Matt LaBouliere led the way with seven kills, six assists, 1.5 blocks and 10 digs. Also contributing were Pat Haurin (3 kills, 1 ace, 5 digs), Aiden Leichter (9 digs), Josh Lyzinski (2 kills, .5 blocks), Andrew Perillo (1 kill, 1 block), Ryan Coxey (4 assists), AJ Helveston (1 kills, 5 assists, 4 digs) and Reid Miller (1 kill, 4 digs).
Pennridge (13-1 SOL) closed out the regular season with a 15-1 record overall. Central Bucks East finished its season with a 9-9 record.
QUAKERTOWN 3, NORTH PENN 1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-23)
The Panthers closed out the regular season with an impressive road win.
Micah Reinford (14 kills, 1 ace, 10 digs) and Zander Marks (10 kills, 1 block, 1 ace, 12 digs) once again led the way at the net and also defensively. Setter Cody Steiert contributed 31 assists, two kills, two blocks and nine digs). Also making contributions were Kevin Richwine (4 kills, 1 block, 2 aces, 7 digs), Isaac Moises (2 kills, 1 block, 1 dig), Logan Parker (3 aces, 10 digs), Kurt Glaeser (3 aces, 10 digs), Rhauan Ferreira (2 digs) and Owen Williams (1 dig).
Quakertown (5-9 SOL) closed out its season with a 6-12 record overall. The Knights also were 5-9 in the SOL and 7-11 overall.
Non-league
UNIONVILLE 3, SOUDERTON 2 (25-16, 25-20, 14-25, 11-15)
Nate Brown and Andrew Brown had monster nights at the net, finishing with 27 and 16 kills respectively, but it wasn’t quite enough to defeat the visiting Tribe in a five-set match.
JC Peackock added nine kills, Tobie Lias had four and Derek Gilmore had two kills. Setter Kavailya Bhatt was credited with 58 assists in the marathon match. Alec Kreiser had nine digs.
Souderton (9-10, 8-5 SOL) will close out its regular season at Central Bucks West.
