#1 NESHAMINY 3, #8 UNIONVILLE 0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-10)
The Redskins continued to roll, earning an impressive sweep of the Indians.
"Unionville is a well-coached team that tested us all night,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “Great first round victory as we prepare for another matchup against a really tough Upper Dublin team. Paul (Choi) has them clicking on all cylinders, and this will be a rematch of last year’s semifinal game which UD won 3-1."
Setter Josh Adler had 30 assists, one kill, three digs and one block. On the receiving end of many of those assists were Ben Clendening (10 kills, 1 block), Kieran Edwards (8 kills, 3 blocks) and Josh Clendening (7 kills, 3 aces, 4 digs, 4 blocks). Also making important contributions were Dan Berzin (4 kills, 8 digs, 1 block), Michael Sooby (9 digs, 2 aces, 1 assist), Josh Hamilton (4 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace, 1 block, 1 assist), Liam Smith (3 digs), John Nice (1 block) and Aiden Hastings (1 block).
Neshaminy (19-0, 14-0 SOL) will face #5 Upper Dublin in a District One 3A semifinal game at Bensalem on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
#2 PENNRIDGE 3, #10 SOUDERTON 1 (27-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-22)
The Rams find themselves in a familiar position after defeating neighboring Souderton in four sets. With the win, Pennridge advanced to the District One 3A semifinals for the 13th consecutive season.
Setter Riley Kodidek was once again the catalyst for the Rams with 34 assists, eight kills, seven digs and three aces. Tyler Johnson (13 kills), Thomas McKinney (11 kills, 5 digs, 2 aces), Nick Smith (9 kills), Bryce Ammon (6 kills, 3 aces) and Jude Rotondo (4 kills, 9 digs, 2 aces) all made important contributions at the net. Alex Derk led the Rams’ defense with 13 digs.
Pennridge (16-1, 13-1) will take on #6 Council Rock North at Bensalem High School on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Souderton ends its season with an 11-11 record (9-5 SOL).
#6 COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, #3 WILLIAM TENNENT 1
Talk about turning the tables on a team – Rock North did just that in Thursday’s quarter final match. Twice during the regular season, the Indians were swept by Tennent in straight sets. They exacted a degree of revenge with Thursday’s upset of the third-seeded Panthers.
Setter Dylan VanSchaick spread the ball around, finishing with 37 assists, 18 digs and three aces. Brady Klein had a huge night both offensively and defensively, finishing with 12 kills and 19 digs. Nick Alleborn added 11 kills and two blocks while Anthony DePalo had nine kills and four digs. Nick Cirincione led the Indians’ defense with 33 digs to go along with two aces. Luke Sill had 28 digs and eight kills, and Jack DePalo had eight digs.
Council Rock North (17-6, 10-4 SOL) will face #2 Pennridge in Tuesday’s semifinal round at Bensalem at 5 p.m. William Tennent (11-3 SOL) finished its season with a 14-4 record.
Wednesday, May 19
#5 UPPER DUBLIN 3, #4 HAVERFORD 0
The Flying Cardinals advanced to the final four of the district with their sweep of fourth-seeded Haverford.
“Everyone did a great job in this game,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “They executed the game plan and got contributions all around.”
David Levin had a big night at the net for the Cards, finishing with 17 kills, six digs, two aces and one block. Benjamin Dorsey (10 kills, 2 aces, 13 digs) and Terrell Turner (9 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks) also had big nights for the Cardinals. Dominick Plaku came up big on defense, finishing with 13 digs and six assists. Ari Weiner (1 kill, 4 digs) and Liam Cassidy (2 kills, 2 digs) also contributed.
Upper Dublin (15-4, 13-1 SOL) will face top-seeded Neshaminy at Bensalem High School in a semifinal match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, May 17
#10 SOUDERTON 3, #7 ABINGTON 2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-12)
The visiting Indians outlasted the Ghosts in a grueling five-set opening round match on Tuesday.
“It was a gutsy win in a very tough environment,” Souderton coach Luke Pinto said. “I was so proud of our guys’ fight.”
Setter Kavailya Bhatt dished out 45 assists. Nate Brown (21 kills, 7 digs, 3 aces) and Andrew Brown (19 kills, 7 digs, 4 aces) had huge games at the net. JC Peacock had six kills.
For the Ghosts, Zach Miller had 10 kills and Myles Winegrad had nine. Zach Miller added five kills while Michael Lyou and Ben Holler both had four kills. Setter Colin Mulvihill had 27 assists.
“We built an 11-9 lead late in the final set, but Souderton never gave up,” Abington coach Jason Barshinger said. “It was an intense match from both sides tonight.”
“We want to always work towards putting the best product of Abington volleyball on the floor. We had some tough injuries to handle in the last match of the season, but we kept working and never gave up. I am proud of our desire to be the best version of ourselves throughout the season. Our senior class has helped grow this program through all of their hard work.”
Abington (8-6 SOL) closed out its season with a 13-7 record.
